We will be very busy, but will try to keep you updated on Twitter and our blog.
Africa Reads is a non-profit organization dedicated to equipping and empowering Rwandan people through literacy.
This organization is different because it does not provide relief or aid, or impose western culture into the African way of life, but rather provides the necessary tools to help Rwanda help itself.
Hello Teachers!
As you know I recently founded a nonprofit, AfricaReads, Inc. In pursuit of our mission to bring professional development to teachers and put books in the hands of children, I'm now in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, along with 11 college students and AfricaReads administrator, Ron Cook. We're providing in-deth teacher professional development in literacy curriculum to elementary teachers in two schools. We brought resources for teachers and books for children. Also, on Saturday, March 29, I'll conduct an all-day workshop for over 100 teachers from 10 elementary schools on the same topic. Our three week trip ends when we return to the States on Sunday, June 6.
Many of you have raised money for AfricaReads or contributed books or supported us in other ways. Many more have purchased the Literacy Lab's DVD sets, with proceeds going to support AfricaReads. Your partnership is at work right now here in Kigali -- from the costs of our travel to the valuable resources and training we've brought to Kigali. For all the ways you have helped make this trip possible: "THANK YOU!"
I look forward to staying in touch.
For the children,
Ken Stamatis
